Alibaba.com: Inspired from Alibaba and 40 Thieves

Alibaba.com is one of the largest web based company in the world. In April 2016, it suppressed Wal-Mart and become the largest retail market in the world.

Name Alibaba was inspired from the novel "Alibaba and 40 Thieves" in Persian culture. One day founder of Alibaba went for coffee and thinking about the name. His mind was clear about Alibaba but he was worried about the popularity of name.

At that time one of the waitress came with coffee and he asked her about the name Alibaba.

He asked "do you know about Alibaba?"

She said "Of course, even most of know about Alibaba"

He asked again "What do you know about it?"

She gently replied "Open Sesame" (A big rock mouth opens frequently when thieves came to the cave in the novel)

From this conversation founder thought Alibaba is the perfect name for his company and domain name was also available at that time.

Conclusion:
Alibaba.com name was inspired from the novel "Alibaba and 40 thieves" in "One thousands and one nights".
